Track Missing Middle (EHO) Development and Impact on Trees
Arlington County has established a site https://my.arlingtonva.us/map/permit with information on the number, location, and type of the EHO applications and approvals. ATAG has pointed out many concerns regarding the impact of these developments on tree canopy and impervious surfaces. See our presentation to the County Board here. Tree advocates need to continue to track the real impacts as this experiment moves forward. Separately, ten plaintiffs have sued the county to note its tree canopy replacement requirements for EHO properties may violate State tree canopy standards. The initial ruling is set for September 27, 2024, the losing side is likely to appeal, so both the program and its impact on tree canopy may be further delayed until the legal issues are resolved. There is also at least one case involving specimen trees, this has not been resolved as of late September 2024.
